Lesson 2: Social Networking Evils
Social Networking Evils
You are scrolling through social media when all of a sudden a stranger starts following you and sends you a message. You respond and begin a conversation because this person seems nice. They boost your confidence and you think this person is your friend now. STOP! Interacting with strangers is just one of many social networking evils you can run into.

So what exactly are social networking evils? To put it simple, they are just all the dangers you can run into while using social media sites. These dangers can include cyberbullying, invasion of privacy, exposure to inappropriate content, identity theft, and increased levels of depression. When using social media, your information can be publicized easily and sometimes you can't control what pops up on your screen. This is why steps must be taken to ensure your safety from these evils.

There are multiple different actions you can take to protect yourself from social networking evils. For one, you can keep your account private. A public account can allow random people and online predators to view your account. You should also try to only follow people you know in real life. Someone who requests to follow you may seem like a normal person, but you should refrain from accepting that random person's follow request. On top of this, NO private information should be revealed on social media sites. People acquiring this information can lead to an increased chance of lurking child predators. Lastly, you should set a daily time limit for social networking sites. Using social media too much can lower your self esteem, and can lead to depression. A daily limit would be very healthy to avoid depression.
